SHOULDER JOINT
ANATOMY
Degenerative
A condition where the structures of the shoulder joint , eg : tendons, capsule, bone; undergo an aging process leading to deterioration, fragility, lost of strength and structural function.

ROTATOR CUFF TEAR
A tear in the rotator cuff will lead to weakness and painful overhead arm movement.

FROZEN SHOULDER
Inflammation of the joint capsule will cause a painful shoulder joint with sever limitation of join movement

IMPINGEMENT SYNDROME
Bony spur causing impingement onto the rotator cuff, leading to painful shoulder movement.
ROTATOR CUFF
Rotator cuff is a group of muscle which attaches to the head of the humerus ( arm bone ) via tendons. Function of these cuffs are to maintain the humerus head in the center of the shoulder joint socket and to move the arm around.
Inability to perform the shoulder movement such as reaching the back of the neck , over head movement, lifting the arm side ways, scratching the back, nagging shoulder pain which radiates to the side of the arm and night pain while sleeping on the affected shoulder are the tell tale signs of a rotator cuff injury.
FROZEN SHOULDER
It is a phenomena where the shoulder capsule's connective tissue becomes thicken and tighten. This will lead to a painful shoulder joint with limitation of joint movement. It usually starts with a painful shoulder, progress slowly and worsen by time. It usually gets better over a period of time, about 1- 3 years.

NORMAL JOINT CAPSULE

THICKEN & TIGHTEN
JOINT CAPSULE

IMPINGEMENT SYNDROME
This is a condition where the rotator cuff is being compressed / impinged by the surrounding structures eg. acromion spurs, inflammed bursae. This leads to a painful shoulder upon lifting up the arm or even slightest movement of the arm
